How did your own journey to becoming an IFBB Masters Bikini Pro inspire you to help others achieve their fitness goals? In my late 30s, I set a goal to compete in a bikini competition, but I was terrified of getting on stage, despite being in good shape. The idea of performing a stage routine was particularly intimidating. But I believe that the things that scare us most are the ones that help us grow. I competed in my first show just before my 40th birthday, and I was hooked. The next goal was to earn my IFBB pro card. I had so many people who supported me and said they wished they could do the same. I would always respond, %u201cWhy not you?%u201d My journey inspired me to help others realize their potential, even if it%u2019s not about stepping on stage but simply achieving their own best version of health and fitness. That love for helping others naturally evolved into full-time coaching, and I%u2019m fortunate to work with one of the best coaches in the industry, which helps me continue growing as both a coach and athlete. What is it about the process of prepping for a show that you enjoy most, whether it%u2019s for yourself or your clients?I love watching the transformation, both mentally and physically. It fascinates me how each body responds differently and figuring out what works for each individual is a challenge I enjoy. Some thrive on high carbs with little cardio, while others need more fats and higher cardio. But what I find most rewarding is witnessing the mental shift in women as they gain confidence throughout the process. Seeing someone go from uncertainty to feeling empowered is incredible. My clients do weekly check-ins, and it%u2019s rewarding to watch how their mindset evolves as they learn about health, fitness, and self-compassion.What was the turning point that made you fall in love with coaching while working as an assistant track and basketball coach? I found immense satisfaction in watching my athletes progress. When my college athletic career ended, I missed the thrill of competition, and coaching helped fill that void. Coaching allows you to be closely involved in people%u2019s lives, helping them grow both physically and mentally. You also learn how to adapt your approach to different body types and personalities. Sometimes, you%u2019re the one adult in an athlete%u2019s life who truly sees them, and watching their confidence grow is incredibly rewarding. How has your background as a chiropractor influenced your fitness coaching and approach to health? As a chiropractor, I pay close attention to alignment when my clients lift. Proper foot alignment, core engagement, and mobility work are crucial to prevent imbalances and injuries. Chiropractic training also taught me about the importance of mental, physical, and emotional balance, which carries over into my fitness coaching. The nutrition education I received has provided a solid foundation for both my personal fitness journey and coaching others. Can you describe how your athletic experience and Type A personality give you an edge as both a competitor and coach? My Type A personality thrives in structured, regimented environments, which mirrors the discipline required in athletics. You do what needs to be done, day in and day out, without question. This repetition and dedication lead to longterm success. As a coach and competitor, this mindset gives me an edge, ensuring that I stay focused and disciplined in everything I do.What role has yoga and Reiki played in bringing balance to your intense fitness and coaching routine? My Type A personality makes me driven and dedicated, but it can also make me rigid and relentless. Yoga and Reiki have introduced balance into my life, helping me cultivate a softer side and granting myself grace when needed. These practices have taught me the importance of breathwork, mindfulness, and flexibility, which have greatly improved both my mental and physical well-being. They also help me tune into my body and make a deeper mind-body connection, something that I now emphasize in my coaching.MOST MAGAZINE - ISSUE 58 37
