Q: You started at Best Buy as an accounts payable clerk. What kept you motivated through your incredible journey to Senior VP and CCO?A: I started working at Best Buy, then called Sound of Music, right out of high school as %u201cthe%u201d accounts payable clerk. There were only three employees in finance at the time: the controller, an accounts receivable clerk, and me. I trained my replacement when I went to college (the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities) and transferred into the stores so I could work full-time in the evenings. We had four stores when I started, and by the time I was in college, we had six.For extra credit in college, I started a company newsletter to connect all the stores, sharing happenings and events and keeping everyone informed (and competitive) about who was leading in sales each quarter. Remember, there was no internet or cell service back in the mid-%u201980s! I was an advertising and graphic arts major, so I designed the newsletter by hand, measuring all the layouts, photos, and sketches. I was thrilled when Apple launched the first Mac%u2014it made my role easier while I was studying, going to class, or working in a store. Best Buy was a startup before the term was coined, and we were all %u201cintrapreneurs%u201d helping the company grow and succeed. I retired after a 30-year career in 2013 as employee #44.Best Buy was a start-up before the term was coined...
