Humans respond best to love and there is love in laughter, so when I fail, I laugh, give myself a hug, and go again.%u201dThese introspective words come from Jasmin SavoyBrown, rising actress that stars in HBO%u2019s The Leftovers and Freeform%u2019s (formerly known as ABC Family) Stichers. Being a young actress in the middle of Los Angeles can certainly raise a variety of challenges, but Savoy-Brown makes the balancing act seem simple. Jasmin was kind enough to sit down with us at MOST to tell us about where her spark for acting began, her love of musical theatre, and how fitness finds a role in her life.By Austin ThomsonSavoy-Brown says that she has always been attracted to storytelling and acting before she even knew acting was a viable career. There is one specific moment as a child that Savoy-Brown says she will never forget. As an eighth birthday present, Jasmin%u2019s aunt and uncle bought box seats to see The Music Man. %u201cThere was a singular moment that I will never forget. A girl my age was wheeled out on stage on a piano bench and she started to play. And sing. As I watched her joy unfold, I felt it take me over and watched as every audience member was touched by her work. Afterwards, the entire company came on stage, singing and dancing and they all looked TRULY happy.%u201d This was the moment that Savoy-Brown realized she wanted to dedicate the rest of her life to the performing arts.Additionally, Savoy-Brown plays the guitar, piano, AND violin. Her interest in music comes from her parents and has been engrained in her life. Jasmin%u2019s dad was a jazz musician while her mother constantly immersed her in music. Jasmin also was a part of the prestigious CAP21 Conservatory where she trained in a variety of classes such as ballet, improve, vocal technique, and countless others. Jasmin says her motivation for applying for the CAP21 program was through rejection in her current work. This moment fueled her drive to validate the dreams she has always held.
