Q: What was it like having Jean Christophe Argillet%u2014the godson of Dal%u00ed%u2014share his personal anecdotes about the late Master at the private event?A: Jean Christophe was a boy during the Argillet-Dal%u00ed collaboration. Hence, his anecdotes combine fond remembrances of a favored uncle and often ribald stories later told by his parents. Together, they are a charmingly innocent and unabashed narrative about an outwardly eccentric but inwardly quiet icon of 20th-century art.Q: In addition to Dal%u00ed, you represent several Contemporary Master Artists. Can you tell us more about some of these artists and their works?A: The most significant of the Contemporary Masters we represent is Sir Daniel Winn, who is also our curator and mentor to many of the artists we represent. Winn is a predominately figurative artist, working in both painting and sculpture, who has revisited and revised concepts of 20th-century surrealism. His oeuvre centers around his philosophy of Existential Surrealism, examining the fundamental nature of reality and man%u2019s place and responsibility in the universe. Winn%u2019s work was curated along with Dal%u00ed%u2019s in the 2019 Shanghai Museum of Modern Art %u201cSurrealism Revisited%u201d exhibition. We also exclusively represent Jamie Pettis, whose colorful expressionist paintings embrace and celebrate the strength of women. There are two prominent Vietnamese artists in our stable: Dinh Ngoc Thang, whose paintings are a modern interpretation of Art Nouveau, and TNT, whose work is best described as contemporary impressionism. We exclusively represent Ira Reines, an American figurative sculptor who, early in his career, was the ghost sculptor for Ert%u00e9 and sculpted the editions released during the Master of Art Deco%u2019s lifetime.Q: How do you balance showcasing works by Modern Masters like Picasso and Renoir with those of emerging contemporary artists?A: Each artistic period builds on those that have come before it but is most intimately inspired and influenced by the immediately preceding period. So Contemporary Art and Modern Art are simpatico. The more exciting juxtaposition is that of iconic master artists alongside emerging artists. The icons have the name and the acceptance that comes with it, but the emerging artists are the ones who are doing the most interesting and innovative work.Q: What message would you like to convey to those who have yet to visit Winn Slavin Fine Art?A: It is said that fine art%u2019s highest purpose is to influence human society and improve the human condition. While that may sound pretentious or intimidating, the %u201chuman%u201d component is most critical. Art is created for you to experience and enjoy; it isn%u2019t simply a luxury good.
