MOSTMAGAZINEQ: YOU%u2019VE WON MULTIPLE FEMALE WRESTLER OF THE YEAR AWARDS AND EVEN BEST PROMO OF THE YEAR. WHAT DO YOU THINK SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER COMPETITORS IN THE INDUSTRY? A: I think something that makes women%u2019s pro wrestling so enticing today is that we have the freedom to own and appreciate our strengths and differences instead of being forced into the same cookie-cutter mold. There%u2019s a female fighter for you to get behind, no matter your preference. For me, I truly embrace the fact that you either love me or you hate me. I don%u2019t follow trends%u2014I question them, test them, twist them, and turn them into something no one saw coming. In this business, staying comfortable is the quickest way to disappear or be forgotten. Comfort puts us to sleep%u2014disruption shakes us awake. I always aim to be the disruptor.I pour everything into my on-screen persona and take so much time to carve out details that many will never even notice. I%u2019m passionate about great storytelling. There%u2019s nothing I enjoy more than a good promo battle. When you have a great back-and-forth %u201cwar of words%u201d with an opponent on the mic, it makes the upcoming match so much easier because the story is already set. The fans know who they love and who they hate by then. (I%u2019m typically the one they hate%u2014and I wouldn%u2019t have it any other way!Q: WRESTLING IS ALREADY A DEMANDING CAREER, BUT YOU ALSO MAINTAIN A DENTAL PRACTICE. HOW DO YOU BALANCE THE INTENSITY OF THE RING WITH THE PRECISION REQUIRED IN DENTISTRY? A: In my first years with AEW, I was also a full-time practicing dentist. I would work in the office all day Monday and Tuesday, catch the latest flight to whatever city we were wrestling in that week, wrestle Wednesday, catch the earliest possible flight back home, work all day Thursday until 7 p.m., and then work half a day on Friday, too. To say it was exhausting is an understatement%u2014sometimes, it felt like the only sleep I got was on planes. As my career and success in pro wrestling grew, it just wasn%u2019t realistic to maintain that schedule anymore. I needed to be more available to travel for AEW, and I wanted to be a reliable employee for the company that took a risk on hiring and investing in me as their first female star.InstagramIG: @realbrittbaker32 MOST MAGAZINE - ISSUE 77
