Q: How did your journey in fashion styling begin?A: My journey in fashion styling began in Tokyo, where I initially went to pursue design. I interned with a Japanese designer but found the experience unfulfilling. Then, I stumbled upon a Craigslist Japan listing for a New York-based stylist living in Japan who needed an English-speaking styling assistant with some Japanese skills. That%u2019s how I began assisting Keith Washington, a stylist represented by Wilhelmina Japan, based in Minami-Aoyama. Although I%u2019d styled my college thesis collection, this was my first real experience on set. I soon found myself moving between showrooms and studios with IKEA bags full of designer clothes, assisting on various projects. The first shoot I assisted on was for the Fox channel in Japan, promoting a Halloween special. I quickly realized that styling captured my passion far more than design, and working under Keith gave me a real insight into the world of fashion styling.38 MOST MAGAZINE - ISSUE 64
