Becoming a professional ballerina is no easy feat and Amanda managed to master that domain, and become a successful actor, excelling at both.Proving that a dancer%u2019s discipline pays off, she has most recently landed the lead role in Syfy%u2019s new series, 12 Monkeys as Dr. Cassandra Railly, set to premiere on January 16th. Inspired by the 1995 film starring Bruce Wills, Brad Pitt, and Madeleine Stowe, 12 Monkeys follows the journey of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race with the help of Schull%u2019s character, a brilliant doctor who is forced to choose between her idyllic life or joining the mission to uncover the dangerous conspiracy. %u201cDr. Railly is a virologist. Before working on the series I did as much research about virology, viruses, contamination etc. as I possibly could. I watched quite a few documentaries about viruses, and doctors working in contaminated areas.%u201d Approaching all of her roles in this way, Amanda describes she has created a technique she uses when first developing a new character, %u201cthat helps me to mold and create a person different from myself. I write a lot of notes, consider a lot of aspects of the person who is on the paper, and try to make the words jump off and into a realistic personification.%u201dGraceful, charming, and illuminating onscreen, Amanda makes it look effortless, but from an early age she knew the value of perseverance and determination. Born and raised in Hawaii, Amanda started dancing at age four and studied ballet with John Landovsky of the Hawaiian State Ballet. %u201cI loved growing up in Hawaii. I think I appreciate it more now that I am no longer living there. The beauty of the islands is breathtaking, and the energy of the people there is unlike anywhere else in the world.%u201d It obviously was a great place to grow up, considering it groomed her to becoming a professional ballet dancer. Ballet really took off for her when she was accepted into and offered a scholarship to attend The Juilliard School, the world%u2019s most prestigious performing arts conservatory yet chose instead to attend Indiana University. Regarding her choice, Amanda explains, %u201cChoosing Indiana over Julliard was not a difficult decision for me.
