JenniferReeceQ: How do you incorporate rest and recovery into your training schedule? IFBB Figure ProI take a rest day twice a week. I try to coordinate these days with my heavy workdays at my dental office if possible, so I can maximize my productivity in and out of the gym.Q: Do you prefer free weights or machines, and why?Lately, I find I prefer machines. I do a lot of tempo and time under tension work. I also often train alone. I find machines are more effective with less risk of injury when I don%u2019t have a spotter available.Q: What does your daily diet look like?My diet is basically the same all year round. The foods remain consistent, but the volume increases and decreases. During contest prep, my calories are around 1800 daily, and in the growth season, they have been as high as 5500 daily.Q: How do you ensure you get enough protein in your diet?Luckily, I have an amazing coach who takes care of my meal plan. He incorporates a high amount of protein from a variety of sources.Q: How do you handle cravings and cheat meals?During contest prep, I allow myself to have one Diet Pepsi daily if I%u2019m craving something sweet. I have also been known to use sugar-free Jello. Recently, I discovered the Ninja Creami, which I use to make protein ice cream. It has been a lifesaver!Q: What motivates you to keep pushing forward on tough days?I think that competitive bodybuilding attracts people with a certain mental fortitude. You need to be able to work hard on the days when you don%u2019t want to in order to be successful. I believe that to be true in all areas of life. I live by the quote: %u201cHe who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.%u201d - Friedrich NietzscheQ: What role does mental health play in your overall fitness journey?Mental health is paramount. I find yoga and meditation helpful. I am a highly introspective person, and I firmly believe that all good things stem from a strong, positive relationship with yourself.Q: Who are your biggest inspirations in the bodybuilding world?Currently, there are so many. I find most of the women I compete with inspiring in some way. I know from experience how difficult it can be and how much sacrifice it takes.
