How do you balance creativity with commercial viability in your designs?I believe I have a bit of a commercial taste, even if that might not sound flattering. I love many popular things, and as an artist, that might not seem right, but I%u2019m all about fun. In that sense, I don%u2019t mind making my designs commercially appealing, even though what I do is not for a wide audience. I often jokingly say that I don%u2019t put the pressure of everyday wearability on myself%u2014I design what I feel, and I let whoever wants to enjoy it do so.What do you hope people feel or experience when wearing your designs? They should feel very confident and bold, feminine, and powerful. Can you share any upcoming projects or collaborations that you%u2019re excited about?I have my new collection coming out this September, and I will showcase it at NYFW. I haven%u2019t showcased at NYFW for five years, though I%u2019ve had many shows in recent years in London, Paris, and San Francisco, among others. The new collection will feature an advanced version of the silicone technology I used in YOLO, so that%u2019s the challenge part%u2014I%u2019m working on it right now, and we%u2019ll see how far it goes. How do you see the future of fashion evolving, and where do you see yourself in it?I%u2019ve always wanted to design for movies, particularly science-fiction movies, so I would be very happy to be part of such projects. As for my own brand, I want to keep creating collections, stabilizing my silicone technology to make it repeatable. I would love to have my own store in New York one day, even though it%u2019s a very ambitious goal. I also want to organize my own big-scale runway shows anytime I feel like putting on a show and make them interdisciplinary art events memorable for years to come. What is your favorite part of the design process?Everything. For me, it%u2019s like dreaming a very good dream that you never want to wake up from. It%u2019s very satisfying. What legacy do you hope to leave behind through your contributions to the fashion world?Courage. I want people who are inspired by me to understand they can make courageous choices.MOST MAGAZINE - ISSUE 47 85
