26 || FITNESS MAGAZINE || JULY 2015water, gardening, I am active but not anything that is considered exercising. I had an SI joint injury, and it was my body%u2019s way of telling me I was overtraining. FMM: Preferred ratio between cardio and weight training? ES: I don%u2019t do a lot of traditional cardio, I do compound lifts at beginning of workout, at end I put in conditioning circuits, might do a super set or giant set with one minute jump rope in between, this is more efficient. Sometimes I will do a Tabata circuit on the stair climber. This is my favorite training method, it provides a perfect ratio for burning fat - do 20 sec all out, 10 sec rest, repeat a total of 8 times. FMM: How important are stretching and flexibility?ES: Very important, before your workout I%u2019m an advocate for dynamic stretching, arm/leg swings, anything where you%u2019re moving through a whole range of motion after workout perform static stretches. FMM: Do you still eat egg whites and oatmeal every day for breakfast? ES: I mix it up, but I%u2019ll have some type of carb with egg whites. Example, I%u2019ll take a can of pumpkins with a cup of egg whites, then mix with immersion blender to whip it up, add cinnamon, chipotle and stevia. In a preheated pan, coated with cooking spray, spread mixture and cover. Pumpkin is a carb full of fiber, which with protein will help you stay full longer. The most beautiful thing about protein (IMHO) is that it is nearly impossible for your body to turn protein into fat. That is a good tip to end on, love your protein for several reasons, but not turning it into body fat is high on my list. Aside from being a trainer, Erin also has a Five Star rated book on Amazon, Mpower Your Life, Find and Define Your Greatness in Muscle and Mind. She also has written several e-books that are available through erinstern.com. You will find e-books, Shred & Sculpt Training Plan, 4 Week Standard Workout and Meal Plan, and Gaining Muscle, also available is a personal consultation, or for the fitness fanatic in your life, you can buy a day of one-on-one with Erin. Erin%u2019s honesty translates to integrity and selfconfidence. Her fellow competitors speak highly of her, okay, everyone speaks highly of her, including us here at MOST. She plans to re-do her original book of poems, Between Seasons, adding more of her philosophies and providing us more insight into the %u201cnerd%u201d (her word) behind the impressive muscles. I would encourage you to subscribe to her YouTube channel, but be careful. I was so motivated, thought I would try some Erin jumps, but, not, not even a little, luckily my ice packs are always handy. The last question I posed to Ms. Stern was, %u201cWhat social injustice gets you on your soap box?%u201d Her answer was, %u201cAny kind of shaming of a group%u201d. And I was not surprised, she is someone that would stand up for you, and someone that definitely could.
