Notably, her role in the short film V.I.P. earned acclaim when it won the Bill Murray Short Comedy Award at the Twin Cities Film Fest in 2022. Susan has also showcased her talents on the stage in Spirit Level, Grand Opening, and Oklahoma, to name a few. Looking ahead, Susan will be seen in such upcoming projects as My 7 Grandmas and Cruel Summer Weekend where she takes on pivotal roles both in front of and behind the camera, overseeing production, casting, and script supervision. My 7 Grandmas was recently nominated in eight categories at the International Christian Film Festival, including Best Picture as well as Best Supporting Actress for Susan and her role. Other upcoming projects include her role in the feature Wheels of Hope, as well as the television series Team Up, on which Susan was an executive producer. We spoke with Susan about her journey in the industry, the lessons she%u2019s learned both in front of and behind the camera, and the faith and passion that drives her.Q: YOUR MOTHER WAS A THEATER ACTRESS. HOW DID HER CAREER INFLUENCE YOUR DECISION TO PURSUE ACTING?A: I always admired my mother with her background in theater and her wonderful stories of her experiences on stage. I used to love dressing up in her costumes and imitating her accents that she had from certain characters. She encouraged me to audition in high school. I was pretty shy. When I went to college, I took an acting class. I loved it so much that I could not stop wanting to do it.Q: YOU%u2019VE PLAYED A VARIETY OF ROLES IN PROJECTS LIKE %u201cCHICAGO FIRE,%u201d %u201cTHE CHRISTMAS LISTING,%u201d AND %u201cCOVER ME.%u201d WHAT KIND OF CHARACTERS DO YOU ENJOY PORTRAYING THE MOST?A: I love playing characters that have an arc in their story%u2014some kind of challenge in life that they have to struggle through. I had a blast working on %u201cChicago Fire.%u201d I worked mostly with Hanako Greensmith and Kara Killmer. They were such a delight to work with. Miranda Rae Mayo, who plays Stella, gave me her %u201cChicago Fire%u201d hat at the end of the day. I was so surprised by her thoughtfulness that I teared up.Q: THE SHORT FILM V.I.P. WON THE BILL MURRAY SHORT COMEDY AWARD AT THE TWIN CITIES FILM FEST. WHAT WAS IT LIKE BEING PART OF THAT PROJECT?A: I was honored to work on this with Marisa Coughlan. She%u2019s known for Ursula in %u201cSuper Troopers.%u201d What a blast it was to work with her. It was a super cold that day, too!
