Nature is a significant inspiration, and I love incorporating it into my compositions. For instance, in the Karoo desert, where the landscape is dominated by dusty browns, the contrast of vibrant clothing against such a stark background made me want to burst with colour. My approach to photography is instinctive and tactile, reflecting how I engage with my surroundings. Exploring diverse styles allows me to express the many facets of my experiences and emotions, from the raw authenticity of street photography to the classic elegance of black-and-white and the lively energy of colour. I%u2019m still pinching myself. That said, I%u2019ve never been one to sit idle or wait for opportunities to come to me. I%u2019ve been incredibly fortunate to have friends in the fashion industry, gallery curators, and artist representatives who recognized potential in my work. They push me, mentor me, and give honest feedback when something doesn%u2019t meet the mark.Surprisingly, I actually listen to them now. I%u2019ve always been strong-willed and set on doing things my way, but with age, I%u2019ve learned the value of constructive criticism. It has helped me channel my passion with discipline and focus. HOW DID YOUR TIME IN JAPAN AND HONG KONG INFLUENCE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY?Angelica%u2019s leap into music was driven by an Japan was a once-in-a-lifetime experience%u2014a bucket list adventure that exceeded all expectations. The country%u2019s rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking sights made it a dreamland for street photography. I took countless photos, striving to capture the essence of this ancient and modern land through both black-and-white and vibrant colour. Despite being a sensory overload, Japan gave me a profound sense of belonging. Climbing Mount Fuji, observing Kendo and Kyudo masters train, and immersing myself in the culture were unforgettable moments to capture through my lens.In Okinawa, I was scolded by an elderly man for sitting under a tree because of my tattoos, but it didn%u2019t deter me from getting more colourful ink in Osaka. Meanwhile, Hong Kong%u2019s juxtaposition of old and new was equally fascinating. One moment, it felt like a European metropolis; the next, a scene steeped in ancient Chinese tradition. Yet, as someone who loves the ocean, parts of Hong Kong were tough to handle%u2014particularly the stark reality of its wholesale fish markets. These travels profoundly shaped my creative process. Each trip inspired me to approach photography with fresh eyes, capturing the beauty, complexity, and contradictions of diverse cultures. The most exciting part is downloading a day%u2019s worth of photos and selecting and editing them based on the emotions they evoke. Japan and Hong Kong added depth to my perspective, enriching the stories I tell through my images. YOU%u2019RE PREPARING TO SHOWCASE MIXED-MEDIA WORKS AT THE HOUT BAY AND LLANDUDNO ART FAIR. WHAT MAKES THESE PIECES UNIQUE, AND HOW DID YOU APPROACH THEIR CREATION?Spring in South Africa is truly magical, and I find inspiration in places like vineyards with their stunning gardens. This year, I had planned to visit the renowned Namaqualand flowers but couldn%u2019t make it, so I headed to a vineyard instead. Growing up, I always loved poppies, which bloom vibrantly in the mountains during spring and summer. I captured some photos and decided to experiment with them in Photoshop, playing with negatives, hues, bright colours, and layering multiple images.MOSTMAGAZINE76 MOST MAGAZINE - ISSUE 69
