An ancestral name is a right of passage, given when it is the right time, by a person who has the rights to do so. I was gifted the name in ceremony this past spring on M%u00een%u00ee Thn%u00ee. It is an honour and a right to be able to carry this name and with it, I now carry additional responsibilities. With this name, I feel more connected to who I am, what my gifts are and what I am meant to do on this earth while I am here. I feel a deeper sense of belonging and a fortitude in knowing my ancestors, Elders and Knowledge Keepers are passing on teachings I am now ready for. It is a call to leadership and to step further onto my path. My name has many different meanings and layers. In what I have been taught so far and able to share, Blue is the colour I was meant to embody, which has many different meanings including the teachings from the Medicine Wheel from the West and the Water Beings. Blue Thunder is the thunder that comes first, of all the Thunder Beings. Thunder is a powerful Being and there are many, many stories about Thunder and its catalytic role. Spirit is what roots us and it is a calling for me as I step further into my all of my current and emerging roles including as a mother, partner and peacebuilder and leader. There are many more teachings that come with my name, some of which I have yet to learn. I will continue to grow into my name with each step of my journey.Q: How has your M%u00e9tis heritage influenced your approach to peacebuilding and cultural mediation?A: Being M%u00e9tis, I get to be of different worlds, simultaneously.
