                                    Corpse Fishing, a haunting and enigmatic short film by Jean Liu, delves into the profound themes of grief and yearning in a marginalized Chinese community. The story follows a despairing teenager named Yan, who, in her search for closure, strikes a deal with a stranger to go fishing for bodies in a desperate attempt to find her missing father. With its subtle yet gripping narrative, the film beautifully captures the complexities of loss and the lengths people go to find solace.This exceptional short was featured at the Tribeca Film Festival and selected for HollyShorts, earning praise for its storytelling and striking visuals. Corpse Fishing was produced as part of Indeed%u2019s Rising Voices program%u2014an initiative aimed at discovering and amplifying stories from BIPOC filmmakers. Rising Voices was created in collaboration with Lena Waithe, Hillman Grad Productions, and 271 Films. The film has also qualified for consideration at the 2025 Oscars%u00ae.Jean Liu, a filmmaker with roots in both the UK and China, has a unique ability to tell highly personal stories with universal resonance. Her previous films have been showcased at SXSW, Slamdance, and various international festivals, with her work appearing on platforms such as the BBC and NOWNESS. In addition to her background in traditional filmmaking, Jean has produced large-scale immersive media experiences, blending live performance, film, and cutting-edge technology for audiences in the hundreds. She is a graduate of USC%u2019s Peter Stark Producing Program and a Pigott/BAFTA scholar.Sarah Park, the film%u2019s producer, is based in Los Angeles and originally from Seoul, Korea. She has an impressive track record of producing award-winning films, including Smoking Tigers and Sweetwater Aquarium, which have traveled the international festival circuit.
