Sometimes, vivid dreams leave a lasting impression, sparking ideas that later come to life in my work.Q: What%u2019s your favorite part of being a fashion designer?The creative freedom is my favorite aspect of being a fashion designer. I love every part of the process, from the initial concept to seeing the final garment come to life. There%u2019s nothing more rewarding than seeing how my designs make people feel confident and empowered. I also value the discussions my designs generate and how they can shape perspectives.Q: What has been the defining moment of your fashion career?The most defining moment in my career was when I left Cuba. That decision allowed me to grow personally and professionally, eventually leading me to compete%u2014and win%u2014on Project Runway. It was a life-changing experience that expanded my worldview and took my career to a new level.Q: You were born in Havana. Have you been back to Cuba since leaving?No, I haven%u2019t returned and don%u2019t plan to as long as the current authoritarian regime is in power. For me, Cuba represents oppression rather than hope. I stand in solidarity with the Cuban people and look forward to the day they can reclaim their freedom and dignity.Q: Which celebrities do you think have a great sense of style, and why?Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Taylor Swift, and Cate Blanchett have incredible style. They know how to strike the right balance between timeless elegance and modern trends without being excessive. Their looks are always sophisticated and effortlessly stylish.Q: Can you describe your approach to selecting fabrics?Fabric is crucial in bringing a design to life. I focus on texture%u2014I%u2019m drawn to materials that feel luxurious yet comfortable, ones that elevate the overall look and feel of a garment.
