Exclusive InterviewSir Daniel Winn on %u201cEctropy%u201d: Cinematic Art vs. the Painting SeriesSIR DANIEL WINNwww.sirdanielwinn.comInstagram.com - @sirdanielwinnwww.winnslavin.comIn film, since there is no dialogue, the score becomes significant. The music and background sounds are essential to emotionally engage the viewer and help them grasp the message I%u2019m conveying. Similarly, in my paintings, it is very challenging to communicate a concept in a visual language that can be understood universally, but I strive to express abstractly to the viewer so as to connect with them emotionally and in a way that they can relate to.Q: How does shooting for a high-profile TV show like Britain%u2019s Next Q: How does the visual style of the film compare to the aesthetic choices in your painting series?A: The film employs metaphors, such as the Big Bang, to convey its themes. In contrast, the paintings utilize symbolism with various elements. Both mediums communicate similar concepts, but do so in different ways. The film uses storytelling to evoke emotional and visual responses, while the paintings rely more on the imagery. Despite these differences, both approaches aim to engage the viewer and convey a deeper understanding of the same underlying themes.Q: Can you elaborate on any aspects of the film that were directly inspired by the painting series?A: When I paint, it begins with a blank canvas. From the empty canvas emerges a beautiful painting. In the film, we start in a cave with nothingness. After the explosion of the Big Bang, there is nothing. From that nothingness arises the galaxies, suns, and planets. In some planets, Mother Nature appears as beautiful landscapes are created. Ultimately, a planet is formed based on that inspiration. Hence, the film starts with nothingness and at the end you have a beautiful landscape of a lush paradise (Garden of Eden or Utopia). In essence, this metaphor parallels my final creations on blank canvases and the completion from nothingness.20 MOST MAGAZINE - ISSUE 50
