Where to avoid staying: Downtown commercial district, it%u2019s dead after 5PM.What to buy: Walk around on Melrose Ave for deal-friendly clothing boutiques and check out the AMAZING, high end clothes on the cheap at Buffalo Exchange and Crossroads Trading.What to see: Go through the winding Hollywood Hills on Runyon Canyon all the way up to see the Hollywood sign. Venice Beach is a dream, bring your rollerblades (!) and spend an afternoon there. Check out the Santa Monica Pier. Be a tourist on Hollywood Boulevard but look out for the crazies during the nighttime hours.What to bring: You need a rental car, don%u2019t even attempt to visit the city without one.
