Q: Do you practice another art form?A: I currently create chalk drawings on handmade paper made from the Lokta bush in the Himalayas. These portrait pieces have an almost haunting look to them. The distinct and unique texture of the paper almost creates a three-dimensional feel. In my youth, I took oil painting classes and painted murals all over the walls of my room when I was grounded.Q: What accomplishment are you most proud of?A: I received my ASP (American Society of Photographers) Fellowship Medallion in 2018. In previous years, I received my Master%u2019s degree, Master Artist Degree, and Craftsman degree. You have to be a Master Photographer before you can even apply for your fellowship. To get your fellowship, you need to submit a lifelong thesis and an extensive portfolio of your work. A panel of secret judges makes the decision if you receive your fellowship or not.Q: What is one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?A: I wish I knew more about lighting and gave myself more freedom to experiment with different lights on models. Mostly, I wish I knew more about the business side of photography. I learned some in school, but much more through trial and error of running a business. Understanding the psychology behind how people make decisions and the choices they make is very important to a successful photography business.Q: What lies ahead for you?A: I plan to further grow my style and creative editing skills. I would like to do more museum and art gallery showings. My future plans also include moving to Italy sometime in the next five years. I have always loved everything about Italy and how rich and diverse the Italian art scene is.48 MOST MAGAZINE - ISSUE 48
