Q: Are there any values or messages that you consistently strive to convey through your work? The main value I try to convey in my videos is that you don%u2019t have to look or sound a certain way to be Hispanic. I share my own personal experiences within the culture and some of those moments have not been as positive, but when I portray them in a fun manner that%u2019s when I can get people to resonate with similar feelings.Q: Do you get annoyed when people say you don%u2019t %u201clook%u201d Latino?Growing up I would get very annoyed because then they would follow up by saying %u201cprove it.%u201d The difficult part for people to understand, particularly those in the U.S., is how diverse the Latino community is. I am one small fragment of the community, but there are several others who don%u2019t fit the stereotypes that the media has created to portray our community.Q: What are some traditional Hispanic dishes everyone should try? Some Hispanic dishes everyone should try are mole (there are so many types to choose from), tamales, chili relleno and chilaquiles. You can%u2019t go wrong with any of these.. Q: As a so-called %u201cno sabo%u201d kid, in your opinion, how should Hispanic families keep language traditions alive? As a %u201cno sabo%u201d kid I think it%u2019s important for families to keep language traditions alive by allocating certain times of the day to speak Spanish. When I had my aunt and primos living with us, they would speak Spanish all the time with my mom or with each other. So even though my mom didn%u2019t necessarily teach me Spanish, because I was surrounded by it, I was able to understand a lot of it from an early age.Q: How do you stay grounded and true to yourself in the midst of fame and success?I stay grounded through my journey in this career by staying close and connected with my family. They have taught me so much and are the reason I%u2019m able to do something like this. So, when life comes at me fast, they%u2019re my biggest support systemQ: Can you share a particular moment when an idea struck you unexpectedly?Ideas tend to strike me as I%u2019m about to fall asleep. It%u2019s probably one of the most annoying parts of my job because I could be in the middle of drifting off and then an idea for a video pops in my head. I try to make a mental note of the idea and hopefully wake up with it still in my mind.Q: If you could go back in time, what advice would you give to your younger self?I%u2019d tell my younger self to stop looking for the answers from other people and believe that you could do it yourself. I had a lot of self-doubt growing up, and sometimes that creeps back in, even now. However, I%u2019ve always had big dreams to do something more creatively freeing in my life. I often wonder, if I had believed in myself sooner, where would I be now?Q: What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of your professional life? Some activities I love include painting, reading, and exercising. Occasionally, I do love binging a show or movie that I%u2019ve seen for the 100th timeQ: Where do you see yourself in 2-3 years? In 2-3 years, I see myself working in shows/movies while still uploading vlogs or behind the scenes footage. I%u2019ll be doing more for my community as well, whether it%u2019s volunteering or making an outlet for those who seek support. I want to work towards those goals in the next 2-3 years.Interview by: Darcy MehtaVivacityproductions.com36 MOST MAGAZINE - ISSUE 41
