From Havana to High Fashion Stardom – Designer Oscar Garcia-Lopez
At just 12 years old, Oscar crafted his first dress—not with high-end fabrics, but using his mother’s old curtains. It was a resourceful, yet symbolic start to a career that would be defined by both ingenuity and artistry. With limited materials available on the island, Oscar didn’t just create garments; he had to make the tools needed to construct them. He recalls sharpening his needles with nail files and candle wax, often waiting for relatives or friends to bring supplies from abroad. “I was determined,” he remembers, “and didn’t mind the effort. It was all worth it.”
