Designer Oscar Garcia-Lopez

Oscar Garcia-Lopez’s journey from a young boy with dreams in Cuba to an internationally recognized fashion designer is a testament to his passion, perseverance, and unrelenting creativity. Born in Havana in 1973, Oscar discovered at a very young age that fashion was his calling. Even as a child growing up in a country with scarce resources, he found ways to express his artistic vision, a vision that has since captivated some of the most elite circles in the fashion world.

At just 12 years old, Oscar crafted his first dress—not with high-end fabrics, but using his mother’s old curtains. It was a resourceful, yet symbolic start to a career that would be defined by both ingenuity and
artistry. With limited materials available on the island, Oscar didn’t just create garments; he had to make the tools needed to construct them. He recalls sharpening his needles with nail files and candle wax,
often waiting for relatives or friends to bring supplies from abroad. “I was determined,” he remembers, “and didn’t mind the effort. It was all worth it.”
